Tonight, on my way up to Jamie’s for some Halloween eats and fun I saw an accident on the University Bridge. There was a bus (Route 66 Southbound) and a car on the southbound lanes of the bridge. The car looked to take a pretty good beating, but the bus look like nothing hit it. Judging by the way the cars were lined up behind the accident, I’d imagine that it was recent. I was just glad that I was not involved, despite the fact that I was heading northbound. However, on that bridge, you just never know.

Fast forward to my way back home from Jamie’s.

I am coming down the hill from 45th and it’s still raining and it’s dark out. I am trying to look a head to see if the right lane is closed (the one the accident was in) or if I was safe staying in my lane. As I approach the bridge I notice that there is a truck with it’s flashing lights on in the bicycle lane on the right side of the road, what I don’t see is the car stopped in my lane just to the left of them. Yes, stopped.

I have no clue why you’d stop a car on a semi busy road, right before the slippery bridge, in the darkness of night, nevertheless in the rain. But, it happened. Luckily, I was slowing down to give caution to the gentlemen in the city truck, because if I had not, I would have rear ended that car. Not like a little bit, but probably at 30-40Mph. So, thank God I was able to stop. The worst part about it is that the bridge is not well lit at all and to top it all off the car didn’t even have its break lights on! It was just sitting there in the road, presumably talking to the workers about what was going on or if something had happened!

When I almost hit the car the workers yelled something that was inaudible to my ears, but it got the attention of the car in front of me enough to have them speed off and take the next right. I don’t know if they were as scared as I was, but they sure took off like they knew they almost got hit.

Now I am home, and am writing about it and thankful that I am able to do so. Because if it wasn’t for that split second when I slammed on the breaks, this would be completely different night for me.

I’m a news freak. I read the news so much during the day that there isn’t much news that is new to me when it comes to the local and national news shows at night. During the day, I mainly read MSNBC, the Seattle PI, and the Minneapolis/St. Paul StarTribune.

Reading those three online papers I get good coverage of the local news from Seattle (and Washington), Minneapolis (and Minnesota), and the world. But, there is this paper that I used to read in print when I lived in Eden Prairie that I no longer read. Why? Because they ask have been asking for my demographics for what seems like a year. So, after playing two hours of poker online tonight I have this desire to play with real people, but not in a casino. I’d rather play with friends. Which leads me to my question, anybody want to be a part of a weekly/bi-weekly game of limit hold ’em? My initial thought was this:

• $10-$20 buy in (I personally like $15)
• Limit Hold ‘Em
• Top Three Positions Pay Out (50/30/20%)

Well, of course there’s more to it than that, but I think the real details aren’t really necessary yet, right? Well, that and I haven’t really thought it all through, but I’m close. Needless to say, if you’re interested, drop me an e-mail or a comment. If I get enough responses we might be able to hold a game this upcoming week. Also, if you want more details, let me know and I can tell you those as well.

Oh, ya, don’t ask about a free game. It’s not that I want to make/lose money, but I’ve played enough free games with friends to know that it’s just not very fun when no money is on the line. But, I think that $10-20 is reasonable, no?

So, I have this friend who I was a roommate with for a year in McMahon and I also have a friend who I work with and was in class with for two years. The one thing they share in common.. WoW. Not only WoW, but Lost Boyz. So freakin’ strange. I don’t even play WoW, but I found out somehow. Small world man, small world…

The other day, while watching Inside the Actors Studio, the host, James Lipton, asked Jay Leno a question that wasn’t ordinary, “What is your favorite four letter curse word?” Right after it was asked I thought the question was interesting considering it was Jay Leno, the famed late night host, who would be answering. I mean, even though he’s on network television, you’d figure he had one, right? Wrong. That’s where his answer surprised me. He basically responded with, and I am paraphrasing here, “the four letter curse words are overused, they aren’t shocking anymore.”
