The past few weeks have been pretty busy with school and wrapping up the development our capstone project. In addition to this, I have also been pretty busy looking into finding a job. A real job. I’m pretty convinced that my days at the Micro Lab are close to over and it is time to go and look for some full time employment. Continue reading “Job Searching”

Help Along the Way
For many of us that are seniors, we have begun, or will begin soon, our search for employment after we graduate. I’ve been working the career fairs and every avenue that I can to attempt to get an “in” to the job market. It has been proving to be more challenging than I first anticipated, but this journey has been with its benefits as well. I am learning how to better sell my skills to employers and how to present myself as the right person for the job. It has been an experience that I hope will come to fruition soon, but it has not been done alone. Continue reading “Help Along the Way”

I hate you…
I can’t wait until next week…
Damn you Jack Bauer! Damn You!
Super Bleh
Well, I feel like I just threw away 7 hours of my life. The Super Bowl wasn’t that great and to top it all off the commercials were not that great either. I’d name a commercial that I liked, but I can’t name any that really stood out to me. The one good thing is that the Patriots won. But, the game was just sloppy. Oh, well. Guess it is time to start my laundry and eat some dinner. Maybe there will be some productivity to come, but I have this feeling I won’t get much done.
Design Dilemma
Anybody who designs anything knows how difficult it can be to have a completely original product. This is even more so when you are designing a product for a market that has a very dominant product established. So, my current thinking has similar thought processes as one might have if they were in a corporation designing a product for market, but mine is for a class project.
My problem is deciding what is outright copying versus implementing ideas that I feel are very good. I can only think of the iPod (yes, so cliche) when this crosses my mind. The iPod was the first widely popular mass marked portable MP3 player that really took off with people. Yes, had to state the obvious. Now, there have been many new players into the market that the iPod created. This seems only logical, right? I mean, if you can tap only a little bit of the market share, you are bound to make a little money (pending product quality among other things). But, they had to build off what worked to even have a chance.
My problem is within the visual design of our project. I have tried to take the effort to take ideas I like and implement them in what I am doing. I have also tried to not “lift” designs from other products already out in the market. But, my main question is this, where is the line between stealing a design and implementing things that have just worked?
Pickle Ball
Tonight some of us went to the IMA to play basketball. However, after seeing that every court was filled we decided that we needed something new to play. So, Jamie and David were going to play pickle ball. I have actually never heard of this game before. What it is like is ping pong but played on the ground. You can find more about it here.
We started off playing doubles and the winner got to stay in. Early on Jamie and David owned everybody. But, soon after they got on their hot streak, Stephen and I got into the swing of it and just dominated. Towards the end my endurance was lacking and I was cramping and just getting flat out tired. Thus, my play dramatically decreased. This is why Stephen owned me big time, like 13-4, when we played one on one. I’ll get him back… in due time.
But, it was nice to be out with friends at the IMA. This was similar to what we did last year duing autumn quarter. Maybe there will be more to come? Let’s hope so, pickle ball was good times. If you’re nice I’ll see if we can get some action shots next time.
What’s My Size?
Ever since I got back from winter break I’ve noticed something that wasn’t happening before I went home. I no longer fit into my pants as well as I used to. Yup, exciting news, I know you’re all dying to know about this, but it’s true. I’m not fitting into my pants like I once used to.
Now, I’ll have to say that the majority of my pants are a little old. I’m thinking that I got some of them when I was a freshman. So, to “grow” out of them now probably isn’t that big of a deal. Right? But, the one thing that keeps popping into my mind is, what is my size? It just seems like I can’t stay in one pair of pants for too long.
Man, does this mean that I won’t be able to fit into my dress clothes? Because if that is the case, I’ll be bummed and then maybe it is time to get off my ass and do something about this.
Edit: I guess it’s time to get rid of the Costco muffins. I mean… “Since we’re on the topic of breakfast food, there is one more dietary disaster worth mentioning. The “Costco” muffin.” (link) *sigh* Good thing I ate the last one today!
