Learn a Little, Would Ya?

As many of you know I have a pretty cush job on campus. I have had this job for about a year now and have really enjoyed it. But, it has only been until recently that some aspects of it have been getting on my nerves. No, it’s not the patrons as you may think. They are the patrons and as much is expected of them. They ask questions, you give them answers to the best of your ability.

Where I have a hard time at my job is to watch simple questions go unanswered or wrong information be given to questions that are frequently asked of the lab assistants. Now, this really doesn’t apply for the lab assistants that have been there for a while, but there is one who just gets on my nerves a lot (I’d imagine others too).

It is not that he can’t answer the questions, they are really easy, but what drives me crazy is that he won’t spend the time to learn the answer to the question. You think you’d pick up on it after it answered for you. You think you’d remember it for next time. But, no. This just drives me wild. It even happened today, twice! I had to correct him in front of the patrons just so that they wouldn’t get all peeved when they realize all of the work he made them do. I don’t even know if he’d get it right next time. Now, he was trained on all of this, but training means nothing until you have to use it. Oh wait, isn’t that what training is for, to train you for your job? Gah!

Man, it just drives me crazy. Bah, I could write tons on this, but I just don’t feel it is appropriate or would help any.

Gosh, I haven’t written like this for a while and damn it feels good to vent, if only a little bit.

Of Those Who Voted

When I was making my rounds of reading the news online yesterday I ran into an interesting article that listed all of the turnout rates for each state for the 2004 election. Of course, I wanted to see who was the highest (Minnesota @ 77.3%), lowest (Hawaii @ 48.9%), and where Washington ended up (65.4%). So, this got me thinking when I was talking to Aaron about what I found online. My thinking lead to wondering how each of these states voted when ranked by percent turnout. So, here I present to you how each state voted electorally, ranked by percent turnout. Continue reading “Of Those Who Voted”

Mmm Update

Well, it’s almost been a week. Guess I’ve been sidetracked with school and work. But, stuff has been going on, just nothing noteworthy to write about.

Capstone is going along smoothly, classes are just fine, work is… work, and I’m still looking for a job. So, it is pretty much the same stuff as usual for me. Except, last night we went out and celebrated Anthony’s Birthday at P.F. Chang’s in Downtown Seattle. I had not been there in quite a while, but the food was still pretty good. I’d show you pictures, but I don’t have any. Expect Jamie to post some though, she took a few from dinner.

Hmm, I just don’t know what else to write about. My brain is dead from such a long week. Plus, I’m at work and that doesn’t exactly spark any motivated writing. Guess more might come later… or will it?

Oh Flickr

Well, ever since flickr went online I was pretty intrigued on its use. So, I signed up for a free account. Well, this is where the addiction began.

Since my free account, I have purchased a pro account which allows me unlimited viewing bandwidth, 1GB upload per month, unlimited photosets, and unlimited pages viewable in my photostream. I’m pretty addicted to it because of the tagging aspect of it. Plus, the community part of it is pretty rad too. I kind of wish that the limit on free accounts wasn’t so low, as to facilitate more group photosets, but I still love the service.

I’ve updated the gallery link in the navigation to point towards my flickr photo page since I’ve been putting just about everything from the past year or so on it. Now, one of my reasons to move from my site to flickr was that I could upload a lot of pics and not have to worry about the space. Well, that is cool and all, but then my host has to all go out and triple my disk space and bandwidth for free. Thus, kind of making it a moot point. Right? Well, I don’t know. I’ve uploaded about 700MB of images so far. So, I’m still sticking with flickr for the time being. That and I paid for it!

So, if you’re curious just sign up for a free account and check it out. I like it alot and I’m uploading images right as we speak. Yeah, it is pretty addicting. It makes me want to take more photos. If you have questions for me about what I like and dislike about it, leave a comment and I’ll let you know.
