Mr. & Mrs. Smith

June 26th, 2005 2 comments

Mr. and Mrs. SmithYesterday Jamie and I went out to dinner in Bellevue at Sushiya and saw Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Dinner was just alright. The rolls were huge and hard to get a hold of. It wasn’t the worst sushi that I have ever had, but it wasn’t the best either. Good thing I had the Entertainment Book to cut the cost of the meal in half.

After dinner, it was off to the movie. This movie was a selection by Jamie, but I didn’t have any problems with it. I mean, she was taking me to a movie with a wicked hot actress in it, so no complaints out of me. But, as Jamie says, they (Brad and Angelina) are just beautiful to look at. With that aside, the movie was actually pretty good. Better than what some critics had to say about it. One thing that I’ll have to give them is that this movie is just a action comedy. It’s nothing that’s going to make you think too hard or say, “wow, that was good!” Simply put, it’s fun, witty, sharp, and fast. All of these things combined added to my liking of the movie.

Besides the witty comedy style of the movie, the rest of the flick wasn’t half bad either. The action scenes, while completely unreal, were sure fun to watch. You got to see Angelina Jolie go all Tomb Raider on the people attacking her and it was just fun to watch. That, and the scene in the Smith’s home is pretty sweet too.

The movie seemed to just coast by and when it was done I was satisfied with what I saw. I personally liked the last line of the movie, said by Mr. Smith when at the therapist, “Ask me that sex question again” as he motions 10 with his hands. It will make more sense when you see it, but the opening scene in the therapist’s office pretty much sets the comedic tone for the whole movie.

Overall, it’s a good summer flick if you’re looking for some action and some witty comedy on the side.

Super Size Me

June 6th, 2005 2 comments

Super Size MeThe other day I watched Morgan Spurlock’s Super Size Me at the suggestion of my roommate. I also decided to watch it because I have been seeing advertisements for a show that FX is doing titled 30 days, which looks to be really good.

While I was watching the movie I couldn’t feel too bad about what I was seeing. I guess, to me, I realize that fast foot is really like convenience food and probably not the most healthy option for your body. However, we all end up eating it at one point or another; either out of habit or for the quick fix for some food. But, while watching this film I couldn’t feel anything but disgusted with what I saw. In only 30 days of eating McDonald’s food 3 times a day (and only super sizing when asked) he gained roughly 20 pounds. He also consumed roughly 8 pounds of sugar. That’s just crazy!

Now, I enjoy fast food on the rare occasions that I eat it, but watching this movie made me think again about how this food can affect you. Of course, this varies for everyone. If you are really curious about how fast food is effecting America I would seriously suggest that you watch this film. It was put together very well and had little to no bias in it, in my opinion. He just shows you what it was like for a very healthy male to go out and eat McDonald’s for 90 meals straight.

Tiger

May 1st, 2005 8 comments

As many of you are aware, OS X 10.4 (Tiger) was released on Friday. This was done to much fanfare for the regular Mac fanatics. My copy arrived in the mail on Saturday and I’ve had the chance to play around with it, however only a little bit. But, even from the limited amount of time I can say a little bit about it. Phantom of the Opera

February 7th, 2005 No comments

Phantom of the OperaThis past weekend David, Teresa, Jamie, and I went on a double date to see Phantom of the Opera. I really didn’t know what to think about it going into it since I had heard from various people differing opinions about the film. I have actually never seen the play, so I was a little interested seeing it in the form of a movie. Now, after seeing the movie, I get the feeling that the Phantom is quite the freak. This of course could be due to the fact that in the movie he was portrayed that way, but I still think that he is quite the odd fellow.

Overall, the movie was ok. Christine, played by Emmy Rossum, did a great job and was good eye candy to stare at while watching the film. She was about the only real reason to see this movie, besides seeing the story on film. The movie was of decent length, the music was up to par for a movie rendition, and from what I hear you get to see aspects of the story that are hard to convey when seeing the play. But, since this was my first shot at seeing the story preformed, I couldn’t tell you if this is a good assessment or not. Really, the movie just seemed to be lacking something, but I still cannot figure out what it is.

In the end, I liked the movie, not enough to see it again, but if you wanted to see it I would say wait and save yourself the 5 bucks and just rent it.

Ocean’s Twelve

December 13th, 2004 6 comments

Ocean's 12 PosterLast night I went to Alderwood 7 to see Ocean’s Twelve. From reading reviews beforehand I kind of knew that this movie wouldn’t be as good as the original. The reviews were stating that it was just a reason to get a bunch of friends together and make a movie. I couldn’t agree more.

The storyline was awkward, the plot was lacking, the editing wasn’t that great, and I just really didn’t like it. Now, I will say that it was funny. But, why have Bruce Willis in the movie? Did he really need to play a part in this movie? Or, why did Julia Roberts have to act as herself? I mean, it was funny, but not laughing out loud funny. Makes me wonder why they added it in the first place. Did the run out of other content to add to the movie?

But, if I were to break the movie down, I’d have to say that the story wasn’t that great, the acting was good (hell, they’re all great actors), and the way it all fit together was just awkward. I wouldn’t recommend to see this in the theatre, wait for the DVD Rental. Now, I’m sure I’ll end up purchasing this when it comes out, but I just don’t think that it was that great of the movie. I’ll have to give it like a 72/100. Bad story, good actors. Worst part is that they left it open for a third movie. So, we’ll see where they take that.

The Incredibles

November 6th, 2004 3 comments

The Incredibles Last night I think I saw the coolest Pixar movie ever, The Incredibles. I remember when Anthony was pushing me to see the trailers that the movie looked cool and funny then. However, last night did the trailers justice.

The movie is about super heroes. Yes, super heroes. They each have a different ability. So, Mr. Incredible is well… incredible. Elastigirl can stretch like no other, Frozone and freeze stuff, and so on. The characters were really funny. This came from what they said and also to what they did.

Later in the movie when Mr. Incredible and Eastigril have super babies they become a family to reckon with. Not like they were not to be reckoned with before, but by adding more super heroes you can’t go that wrong. Of course, when they have their kids the supers are outcasts from society and need to go into a protection program to hide their identity. This proves to be too difficult for Mr. Incredible and he had to get his super hero fix by taking on some missions behind his wife’s back.

He gets sucked into a trap to build a device that is smarter than all of the super heroes. But, this is where the good stuff in the movie really happens. So, I’m not about to go any further in the story line.

If you’re looking for a funny movie to see and you just so happen to like digitally animated films, this one is for you. Definite two pairs of thumbs up from me.

Team America: World Police

October 21st, 2004 No comments

Tonight I went to the Neptune to see Team America: World Police with Jamie and Greg. Before I saw the movie I had heard from some friends and from reviews that I had read that it was pretty funny and was looking to annoy a lot of people. After seeing this movie, I can totally agree.

I mean, from their theme song, to the language, to the plot of the story, not many people were left standing after the movie ended. But, needless to say that it provided a good comic relief for the hour and forty-five minutes that the film ran.

I would have more to say, but I just don’t know what else I can say except: “Matt Damon”

If you’re up to it, see it. I liked it and it made my day.
